Greetings to all in email land,

It has been awhile since I have felt enough creative juice flowing to continue the weekly musings.
Something that I guess can happen to all of us at one point or another.
Whether that is in words, or art, or music, or knitting, or woodworking, or wherever human mind, meets with human hand.

Maybe it is not so much a lack of creative prowess, as this seeming “scatteredness” that has interrupted “scheduleness”.

Anyhow, it can I suppose be quite understandable, given the events of the last few weeks, … helping care for my mom, … walking with her or maybe better to say finishing that journey of illness that began 10 years ago now, … and now helping dad along in his future days, … continuing the joyous celebration of family life with all the York clan, complete with all of its challenges and rewards, … busyness in my bagpiping life, with band members and new students, and last but most certainly not least the joys and sorrows of celebrating God’s presence within the midst of the people of Hastings Roseneath Charge of the United Church.

Life is good… I am blessed.

I am finding as we are a mere few weeks into the year 2009, that the Season of Epiphany has brought along with it many Epiphany moments.

For those who may not have epiphany as a regular part of your vocabulary, it refers to that “aha” sort of time; the revelation of Jesus the Christ to the world, after the visit of the Magi from the east. Epiphany in Christian word is the appearance of the divine to someone, or some group.

More secularly, the word refers to an illuminating realization or discovery.  An “Aha” moment. And more often than not it gives the person a feeling of awe or wonder.

Just think about some of the events that have happened early in this year.

It was an Epiphany to me that watching Junior hockey is more exciting than watching the NHL.
Junior hockey is some of the best hockey the world can see.
Young amateurs, who hoped to be professional, but for the time being they are playing amazing hockey.
Excellent hockey matches. (and of course a bonus when Canada wins the gold medal!)

And to the south, I think it has been an “Aha” time for the people of the USA and of the world.
Time will tell, but I think the whole world has been waiting for the revelation of a small “m” messiah as president.
Hopefully it becomes an epiphany moment in our history.

Wishing you epiphanies that give you a sense of wonder and awe in your life.
Wishing you blessings and prayers throughout the balance of the week.

For those in Roseneath and area, the “Sweetheart Supper” will keep helpers busy, and many hungry stomachs satisfied on Saturday.

A bit like the “Feeding of the 5000” less the last zero.  And with pie for dessert.

Also, Sunday service at Hastings this week will include worshipping with the “Scouts” movement, for Baden Powell Sunday.

Yours in thought and prayers,

Jamie

Prayer:

Gracious and eternal spirit of God, touch us this day with your guiding hand.
Spread the peace that surpasses all understanding throughout all our hearts, minds and souls,
Keep us within Your sight and care, this day and all of our days.    Amen.
