Due to the snow conditions several locals were unable to attend the Cobourg UCW Presbyterial Annual Meeting in Port Hope United Church.

We gathered in the dining hall for coffee, muffins and fruit to begin our morning. The highlight for many is finding friends, who some of us only see at this gathering. It was a hub of chatter, hugs and well wishes to all.

Lynn Liddell and Jan Rice led us in hymn singing while we slowly found our seat in the sanctuary. The business of the day was conducted by President Sharon McElroy which included devotions, greetings, memorial service, reports and the dedication of the offering. It was decided and passed that the offering be divided between Nicaragua and United for Peace Fund. Betty Trucott brought greetings from Pres. of Conference. Pat Gilmore was unable to be with us due to weather conditions. The guest speaker in the morning and afternoon was Cathyann Hoyle who spoke to us about her experiences in Nicaragua as a Reg. Nurse. A slide presentation gave us a real insight into the difficult lives of these beautiful women and children who are surrounded by poverty, hardships, health issues and uncertainty. Cathyann helped the people medically with immunization, teaching about all aspects of their health and giving them encouragement to develop skills wherever she felt necessary.

The installation of Officers was conducted by President Betty Turcott. The position of Vice president is still vacant. However the position is being considered. Sharon McElroy handed the gavel over to Marion McComb incoming president. Marion told us a little bit about herself, her family and her accomplishments to date. Our support is so important and needed.

Closing devotions were conducted by Rev. Dan Yourkevich followed by communion.

Everyone enjoyed their day with good food, fellowship and a better understanding of how we can reach out to others who are not as fortunate as we are.
