Hastings Vacation Bible School---July 15-17, 2008

We held our Vacation Bible School on July 15, 16th, and 17th at Hastings Trinity UC this year. We were very lucky to have Marion Rollins and Barb Derocher to help in the kitchen. As Rev. Jamie mentioned in his newsletter several times, they fed us well. We were also blessed with the help of Patsy Cobb (who has also been helping with the after school group this year) Nathan and Heather Orr, Donna Elliot, Elizabeth Kellogg, Mellissa McKillop and her friend Reece.
 
Our theme was Christmas in July. We used a combination of a program from “Children of the Rising Sun.”

This is a program created as part of our apology to our native peoples. We studied the Christmas Story as Father Brebouef taught it to the Huron’s 400 years ago. We learned some of the stories behind our native customs. Besides’ making headbands, choosing our native names we made our own version of “Bone and Toggle” a game played by the Ojibwa. We crafted wampum purses, shot bows and arrows and threw javelins. We learned several songs including “The Huron Carol” in Huron.

Just to reiterate, we were well fed.
