The last few weeks have been challenging in terms of weather and bad news scenarios. The atmosphere has lost a lot of its humidity but the atmosphere at General Motors in Oshawa will be stormy for a while. The announcement about closing the truck plant at GM is quite devastating for many. It will have quite a ripple effect on the economy and the community at large. And that community at large covers quite an area, as there are people who travel long distances in order to be employed at GM. For some remote communities, GM might be their largest employer. Even the churches will be affected. If people don't have employment it might affect their level of financial commitment they are able to provide for their church. Our world continues to face challenging changes as we move from year to year. Change is always around us, if we but recognize it. I believe it was Sarah Parks, who wrote a leadership book that made the comment that "it is not change that we fear, but loss that we fear in our life." That seems to be quite true, because change is constant, and it is the loss that results from change that is hard for us to adapt to. The whole realm of globalization is a big change in the way things are and will be into the future. GM trucks will be built in Mexico. That is change, which will mean loss here. Hopefully some concessions can be negotiated, to help lesson that loss. We have all heard about a son being promised to Abraham and Sarah, a blessing that many a father, (and mother) have celebrated in,... and about Jesus commissioning the disciples to take their ministry "on the road". This points to two important aspects of our lives within God's realm on earth. The blessing of children within our midst, and how we are blessed by God who goes with us in our ministries to others. You are invited and welcomed to be part of it... to nurture your spiritual being, to see God's blessing in God's people, both young and old. Have a wonderful, care filled week. In blessing, prayer and care, Rev. Jamie York Hastings Roseneath Pastoral Charge
